Nairobi National Museum is located at the Museum Hill, approximately 10 minutes drive from the city centre. It is one of the most preferred tourist destinations adjacent to the city centre. The museum was opened on 31st March 2008 after renovation and expansion that began in 2005.

The renovation has changed the face of the museum to a modern centre dotted with a feeling of heritage, culture, arts and crafts. The museum now boasts of a visitors’ centre furnished with a world class Coffee Lounge, Gift shops and a Book shop. Inside the museum, it is all ‘wow!’  The newly set up galleries are simply amazing. Fort Jesus is a popular destination for foreign and local tourists, researchers, and students. Thousands of visitors come to see the impressive fort and its exhibition galleries. The galleries hold finds from archaeological excavations along the Kenyan coast, the Fort itself and exhibits on culture and history of the coastal people. Also on display are artifacts excavated from the underwater shipwreck of the San Antonio de Tana which sank in Mombasa harbour in 1697. Fort Jesus also has ample grounds with a touch of antiquity for holding weddings and corporate functions

Lovers of the famous movie "Out of Africa" will step back in time to share the spirit of the writer and the lives she immortalized. Those interested in the history of Kenya will appreciate the furnishings of this genuine farmhouse from the early years of the 20th century. Anyone wanting to spend a quiet and beautiful afternoon will enjoy the Karen Blixen Museum.
The Museum, originally built in 1912, was the home of the Danish author Baroness Karen Blixen (also known by the pen name Isak Dinesen) from 1917 to 1931. After several changes of ownership and sparked by the success of the film of "Out of Africa," the house was converted into one of the constituent museums of the National Museums of Kenya in 1986.
The Museum is open to the public from 9:30 to 6:00 every day. Admission charge is 50 Ksh for residents, 200 Kshs for non residents. Guided tours are offered continuously. A museum shop offers handicrafts and books. The grounds may be rented for wedding receptions and other events.
